Jersey City Plein Air

Here are are few plein air paintings from the streets of Jersey City.

The Staten Island Ferry from near Exchange place. This view is now obscured by a high rise.

I painted this from Liberty state Park,, a view of some old tugs moored in the old Morris Canal.
City hall is just beyond.

A view of Ellis Island from Liberty State Park. Liberty looms from off to the right.

Everglades Sunset

Everglades Sunset
16" x 20"

I'm experimenting with working on gold leaf grounds on this one. The trick is to not cover the gold leaf up with opaque paint and to let the shimmer come through the paint layers.Glazing layers of sun thickened oil medium or thinned canadian balsam, increases the refraction index  and heightens the effect.

Weekly Figure Sketch

More from this past week
I've elongated the limbs on this model, perhaps a bit too much... but I think it enhances a sense of lankiness..
