Cabin in the Woods

I painted this at my friends house in the northeast kingdom of Vermont in Barnet.
A beautiful early 18th century house in the woods with a room of antiques that resembles
a mountain man's cabin in the woods, with all the accoutremonts of the time.
A special place I stayed at for a few weeks while they were away, only me, my paints, the dogs,a cat, a horse, and a ghost.

Bright Earth

Highly recommended book on the origins and evolution of pigments and the relationship of artists pigments to the creation of Art . Equally fascinating is the link between the science of pigment fabrication and how the chemical industry began from this artist driven imperative.

Excellent four part You Tube lecture by the author.

Everglades Sunset

Everglades Sunset
16" x 20"

I'm experimenting with working on gold leaf grounds on this one. The trick is to not cover the gold leaf up with opaque paint and to let the shimmer come through the paint layers.Glazing layers of sun thickened oil medium or thinned canadian balsam, increases the refraction index  and heightens the effect.
